Psychotherapy will provide you with professional support when you feel low, anxious or stressed, and it can guide you along a path of positive change. Often people are not sure what is bothering them but wish to explore thoughts and feelings that may have led them to feel stuck, lose a sense of who they are, or the meaning in their life. Therapy can help you deal with difficult life events and overcome challenging times in your life.
I provide psychotherapy and counselling services for individuals with a wide range of issues. I am registered with the Health Care and Professions Council and the British Psychological Society.
I am an enthusiastic and empathic counselling psychologist with a wide range of experience in both the private and public sector. I have significant experience working with adults in both time-limted and longer term therapy, as well as extensive experience facilitating group therapy. I have supported patients with mild/moderate psychological difficulties as well as those with highly complex presentations.
I have an interest in working with patients with depression and anxiety disorders (including panic disorder, social and health anxiety) and supporting new parents with the adjustments and challenges that come with being a parent. During my time in the public sector, I developed a service working with stroke survivors, and as a result I have a keen interest in supporting patients adjusting to chronic medical conditions.
Choosing the right treatment can be a challenge. Whilst my main approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), my "patient first approach" means that where necessary I will integrate other therapy models in order to ensure the needs of my patients are met.
Whilst patients diagnosis may be much the same, I understand each of my patients have different needs and goals, and my aim is to respond to their unique situations, by developing individually tailored programmes of therapy for each and every one of them.
Sessions can be face-to-face or online.
You have an incredibly balanced approach which feels personal but also recognises those important healthy boundaries we as patients are having to learn to re-establish. Thank you for being part of what has and continues to bring me back to life."
"I have achieved things and enjoyed things which seemed completely unthinkable and impossible - all thanks to your advice and approach."
"It has been quite a difficult journey, I feel now that I can move on with the help and guidance you have given me. You are an amazing person and it was an absolute pleasure to work with you. It's difficult to say goodbye to someone you shared so much with, I will hold a special place in my heart for you."
"I was very apprehensive and lost at the initial assessment. You were warm, caring and made be feel there was hope - and following our sessions I found that there is."

There are many reasons why you might not have found your past therapy useful. Firstly, your readiness to engage in therapy is very important, as well as the style of therapy you try. Most importantly the relationship you have with your therapist makes a big difference to how helpful you find your sessions. Ultimately you need a therapist that you have confidence in and feel comfortable with, so please don't give up if you've yet to find the right therapist for you.
The first appointment is an initial assessment. It is an opportunity for us to begin to put together a picture of how things are for you and what you would like to be different. We can then formulate a plan for further sessions.
Yes everything you bring to a session is confidential. The only exception being where there is concern for your safety or for the safety of others. In such cases other professionals may become involved in your care in order to get you the additional help you need.

CBT is a time limited approach focusing on unhelpful thoughts and behavioural patterns which may be maintaining your problems. The aim of CBT is to enable you to think in a more balanced way about things that happen in your life. CBT does not focus extensively on your past but it uses your past experiences to make links to some of the challenges you are currently facing in the present day.
24 hours notice is required when cancelling your appointment, otherwise you will be charged the full fee for the session.
All enquiries are treated in strictest of confidence. This is an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, and if you would like to explore starting therapy further, an initial appointment will be arranged.
